Pregnancy:
During your pregnancy, I'm here to answer any questions you have, be an information resource, and connect you to trusted providers. I offer two prenatal appointments where we can discuss any hopes, dreams and fears you might be having. Here we can talk about what your options are during your perinatal period and answer and questions that come up. We discuss day of logistics and I can offer suggestions or alternatives to common things you're worried about.
Labor:
Starting at 37 weeks, I am on call for you. I join you during your active labor and support you in the ways that we discussed. I'm there to help make your birth go as smoothly as possible and look the way you want. It's important to me that I know your values so that I can be there for you in the best ways possible. I can suggest alternatives when you want them, show your partner how to be involved, and help you find ways to be as comfortable as possible. I leave my opinions at the door unless you ask for them, and become your ally. I can help to navigate through tricky situations if they come up, and translate medical jargon so you can make choices that are closest in line with your values. Labors with a doula statistically go faster and have less unnecessary interventions. My goal is for you to be able to look back on your birth and feel satisfied with the outcome.
Postpartum:
Congratulations! Your baby is earth side! I will stay with you and your family at your birthing location for about an hour after you have your baby. Here I can help you with your baby's first feed, get you and your partner fed, and then get you comfortable and settled in for a big nap. Birth is a lot of work for everyone, including your baby, so it's common that after their first feed they get a great nap in. After you are home, I come and do an in-home visit for about two hours. This usually looks like helping with feeding, processing your birth and answering lots of newborn questions. I'm here to support you in whatever way feels best to you.
